A popular morning drink could do more than providing an advantage: it can also help women to keep it healthy as they grow older.

This is according to new research from Harvard University, who followed a group of about 50,000 women from the nurses’ health studio for a period of 30 years.

Researchers found that drinking coffee every morning could help women to keep mentally sharp and physically strong in life, according to a statement by the American Society of Nutrition.

The optimum time to drink coffee is not when you usually have it

The advantages were observed in middle -aged women who drank coffee with caffeine. Coffee and DECAFF tea did not have the same effect.

“Healthy aging” here meant surviving advanced age without significant chronic diseases and good physical, mental and cognitive function, “said Dr. Sara Mahdavi, a doctor, a postdoctoral companion at Harvard Th Chancho of Public Health, Harvard University, in Fox News Digital.

“It is important to emphasize that this relationship persisted even after counting key life factors such as diet quality, physical activity and smoking, each of which is also strongly associated with healthy aging by itself.”

It was found that women who classified themselves as “healthy agents” consumed an average of 315 mg of caffeine daily, mainly through the coffee drink.

The study found that each additional cup of coffee was related to 2% to 5% greater than the healthiest aging.

Although the soda also contains caffeine, it was shown that people who drank it every day had 20% at 26% of reduced possibility of healthy aging.

“The health benefits seemed specific to coffee, instead of caffeine more widely,” said Mahdavi. “We did not see the same associations with Coffee Decaf, Tea or Soda caffeinated, suggesting that the unique combination of bioactive compound coffee can play a key role.”

The findings were presented on Monday in Nutrition 2025, the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition held in Orlando.

Women can listen better than men, suggest a new study

“Although past studies have linked coffee to individual health results, our study is the first to evaluate the impact of coffee in various aging domains for three decades,” said Mahdavi.

“The findings suggest that caffeine coffee … can exclusively support the trajectories of aging that preserve mental and physical function.”

“Health benefits seemed specific to coffee, instead of more wide caffeine.”

The researcher acknowledged that the study has some limitations.

“As in all observational studies, we cannot establish causation,” he told Fox News Digital. “While we adjust for many factors, it is always possible non -measured confusion.”

Mahdavi also said that the study group mainly included white and educated female health professionals.

“An additional work is needed to confirm the generalization of broader populations.”

Despite the potential benefits of coffee, regular and non -smoking exercise are the “most powerful and proven contributors” to healthy aging, said the researcher. (Istock)

The benefits of coffee are “relatively modest” compared to the advantages of general healthy lifestyle habits, according to the researcher.

“These results, although preliminary, suggest that small and consistent habits can shape long -term health,” said Mahdavi. “Moderate intake of coffee can offer some protective benefits when combined with other healthy behaviors, such as regular exercise, a healthy diet and avoiding smoking.”

“We do not recommend starting coffee if you still do not drink it or if you are sensitive to caffeine,” he continued. “But for people who already consume moderate amounts, usually two to four cups a day, this study adds the evidence that coffee can be part of a healthy lifestyle.”

Mahdavi emphasized, however, that nutrition, regular exercise and not smoking are the “most powerful and proven collaborators” in healthy aging.

The team now plans to explore how bioactive coffee compounds, in particular polyphenols and antioxidants, could influence molecular aging pathways, including inflammation, metabolism and vascular health, said Mahdavi.
